Cable from Nikolai Kuznetsov to Aleksandr Vasilevsky

[Undated, probably 21 August 1945]

MARSHAL OF THE SOVIET UNION COMRADE VASILEVSKY

In view of the possible resistance of the Japanese on the island of HOKKAIDO, I consider it very possible [sic] that by the moment of landing the island of SAKHALIN is cleared and a part of the forces are readied for deployment to HOKKAIDO across the LA LAPEROUSE Strait.

By this time the air force should ideally be relocated closer to the LA LAPEROUSE Strait. Necessary ships and naval infantry will be supplied along the Navy’s [lines].
