On the 28th, Orita informed Special Assistant to the President Sigur and Acting Assistant Secretary of State Raphel of the part of the meeting between the Japanese and Syrian foreign ministers that had to do with the problem of the American hostages. Both of them repeatedly expressed gratitude for the Government of Japan’s continued efforts. Each said that he would immediately report the information to President Reagan, President’s Assistant McFarlane, and Secretary of State Shultz.
