RECORD OF A CONVERSATION
with Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba
Fidel Castro Ruz
9 September 1961
At a reception held by the Bulgarian Embassy on the occasion of the national holiday, Liberation Day, I talked with Fidel Castro and in accordance with instructions [I] had received I informed him that the Soviet government had agreed to receive Deputy Minister of War [SIC] Sergio del Valle and Chief of the Operations Department of the General Staff and member of the NSP CC Flavio Bravo in September as guests of the USSR Ministry of Defense. I also told Fidel Castro that the USSR Ministry of Defense and the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers for Foreign Economic Relations had charged [me] with holding talks with a delegation on questions of interest to it.
We will also inform Fidel Castro about the conversation of Cde. N. S. Khrushchev and Argentine Ambassador in the USSR Barros Hurtado.
Fidel Castro asked [me] to pass [his] gratitude to the Soviet government for the attention which will be shown to the Cuban delegation being sent to the USSR as guests of the Ministry of Defense, and for the information about Cde. N. S. Khrushchev’s conversation with the Argentine ambassador.
