JOURNAL

of Soviet Ambassador in the DPRK A. M. Puzanov for the period

29 April through 30 May 1960

Pyongyang

29 April 1960

I visited Pak Seong-cheol. Referring to Kim Il Sung's agreement to come to the Embassy for dinner on 2 May, I asked to clarify who would come to the dinner with Kim Il Sung and what the most convenient time would be.

Pak Seong-cheol said that yesterday Kim Il Sung talked about this and asked to pass on that those comrades whom the Ambassador had invited would come. Six P.M. is preferable.

I thanked the Minister for the information and said that in the 21 April conversation with Cde. Kim Il Sung the discussion was tentatively about inviting Cdes. Choe Yong-geon, Pak Jeong-ae, Kim Il, Pak Geum-cheol, Kim Chang-man, Nam Il, and Pak Seong-cheol to the dinner along with Cde. Kim Il Sung. I asked whether the Minister had any wishes or additions.

Pak Seong-cheol initially responded that he had no additions, but then at the end of the conversation noted that it would not be bade to also invite Cde. Pak Yong-guk, Chief of the KWP CC International Department.

I agreed with the Minister's suggestion and asked that Pak Yong-guk be informed about this.

The Minister asked about the following: would it not be possible through the Soviet UN Representative to find out the assessment of the situation in South Korea by the UN representatives of capitalist countries or are they keeping silent for the time being[?].
