Nam Il called on the telephone (VCh) and asked how much grain was planned to be shipped from the Soviet Union to the DPRK this year according to the request of the republic's government.

I replied that it is planned to ship 90,000 tons and postpone the DPRK's delivery of 30,000 tons of rice to the USSR until the fourth quarter of 1960. Accordingly the total aid being furnished is 120,000 tons of the requested 150,000 tons.

Nam Il expressed gratitude. Then he said that he told the main substance of the conversation held between him and me during the hunt to Kim Il Sung, who "remained satisfied". Then Nam Il said that Kim Il Sung had previously been misinformed about many issues.

I inspected a new production of "Brat'ya [Brothers]" to a story of the same name by writer Han Seol-ya in a Korean theater with a large group of Embassy officials. The main idea of the play is Communist humanism, genuine love for people. A struggle in the name of a just cause joins people like brothers and makes them invincible. The time of the action is the period of the war against the Americans and South Koreans. The play is being viewed with great interest and attention. People's Artists of the DPRK Pe Yon [sic] handled the role of senior musician Nam Jin very well; Honored Artists Tae Il-min plays the role of the former kulak Son Man well; and Pyongyang schoolchildren play the children directly and simply.
