DIARY

Ambassador of the USSR in the DPRK, Cde. Ivanov V.I.

For the period from 24 May to 11 June 1956.

Pyeongyang

7 June

[DPRK Minister of Construction] Kim Sung-hwa [Kim Sung Hwa], whom I had invited to dinner, visited the Embassy construction site in the evening. Kim Sung-hwa passed on a letter from [Deputy Prime Minister] Choe Chang-ik [Choe Chang Ik] who asked [me] to organize a meeting with him at my apartment but expressed a desire that the conversation be conducted without an interpreter, with only him present.

I agreed with this proposal and set this meeting for 8 June at the dacha at Seopo.

Kim Seung-hwa and Ivanov set up a meeting between Ianov and Choe Chang-ik.
