TO THE CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE 4TH ARMY

 

INSTRUCTION OF THE CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE MARITIME FRONT

The Maritime Front is conducting an offensive operation.

 

In accordance with the concept of conducting a front offensive operation  [the following] is envisioned for topographic and geodesic support to the Army offensive operation:  

 

1. Supply Missile Troops and Artillery with the geodesic data, paying special attention to the examination, monitoring, and thickening of geodesic networks in the areas the rbr and dtr [expansion unknown] are deployed. The thickening of the network in the areas to which the rbr and dtr are deployed is to be brought to a density of one point to each 20 square kilometers, and in areas where artillery is deployed, one point to each 4 square kilometers.

 

2. The complete stocking of Army troops with maps and catalogs of reference points to the depth of the Army offensive operation is to be done by the evening of 22 March. The following materials will be delivered to the 4th ASTK [Army Topographic Map Depot] by the morning of 21 March with the goal of creating a complete stock of topographic materials:

 

- a 1:25,000 map for the boundaries of the rivers LABA, WESER, and EMS, a full Army supply,

 

- a 1:50,000 map in 307,000 copies (307 designators [nomenklatury] of 1000 copies each),

 

- a 1:100,000 map in 208,000 copies (104 designators of 2,000 copies each),

 

- a 1:200,000 map in 49,500 copies (33 designators of 1500 copies each),

 

- a 1:500,000 map in 3,900 copies (13 designators of 300 copies each),

 

- a 1:1,000,000 map in 1,400 copies (7 designators of 20 copies each),

 

- catalogs of coordinates - 2400 copies (120 designators of 20 copies each).

 

In addition, maps of prominent landmarks along the coast of the North Sea from CUXHAVEN to GRONINGEN and for the area ZWOLLE, EMMERICH, MÜNSTER, BRAMSCHE and city maps on a scale of 1:10,000 to 1:15,000 for CUXHAVEN, WILHELMSHAVEN, BREMERHAVEN, BREMEN, NEUSTADT, HANNOVER, CELLE, and MÜNSTER will be delivered by the morning of 22 March.

 

3. Topographic reconnaissance in the zone of Army operations, especially work to inspect the quality of the maps [SIC, no verb]. Pay special attention to reconnoitering the geodesic work being done by the enemy.

 

4. Beginning the morning of 20 March the 63rd FSTK [Front Topographic Map Depot] [will be] in a forest 10 km north of SIEGENHALS. Report execution in operational summaries.
