…Atom-Free Zone: Mexico will continue its drive to establish Latin America as a region where atomic weapons are outlawed and clear testing forbidden, Foreign Secretary Manuel Tello told the Association of Foreign Correspondents. The signing of the Moscow Treaty imposing a limited ban on nuclear testing may win new support for Mexico’s denuclearization programme, he said, adding: “We have such a need for hospitals, schools, roads and dams, it would be criminal to spend money on nuclear weapons.” The denuclearization proposal has received the support of Brazil, Chile, Bolivia and Ecuador, but further action is now in the discussion stage at the United Nations in New York.
