I met with President Ferdinand Marcos at 10:30 a.m., and talked with him for around an hour. The main points of the talk:
(1) Marcos knew our progress in various aspects very well, and sang high praise for it;
(2) Marcos asked our self-governance in detail;
(3) Marcos asked our views on the future situation of Indochina Peninsula;
(4) Marcos asked me the biggest reason for our setback on the mainland [of China];
(5) Marcos solemnly expressed that he and other Filipino people firmly object to communism, and firmly reject influence of any international politics and external forces over his country’s decision making;
(6) For the common interests of the Philippines and Taiwan, both parties should endeavor to strengthen substantial relations and cooperation;
(7) Marcos repeated ask me to forward his best wishes to Your Excellency [Chiang Ching-kuo].
