On the Return of Korean Nationals to North Korea
This document was made possible with support from Leon Levy Foundation
“Regarding the affair of Korean nationals requesting to return home, we have consulted the Korean embassy. [Their view is that] the Korean nationals currently living in our country have many political issues, besides there are too many of them, under the current situation they will not be approved to return [to their home country]. Therefore, our ministry believes this kind of issue can be delayed and dealt with later. If Korean nationals press us on the issue, we can refuse them gently using the [ongoing] war as our reason for refusal.”
A Chinese Foreign Ministry report on the management of Korean nationals living in China during the Korean War.
