The German Democratic Republic’s chargé d'affaires ad interim in Pyongyang, Klaus Steinhofer, told A. Lazar that the General Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, Erich Honecker, had planned to visit the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in February this year. However, the visit was cancelled due to some disagreements with Vietnam in terms of dates, and rescheduled for the end of the year regardless of whether Honecker will visit Vietnam or not.
K. Steinhofer emphasized the importance of European socialist leaders to visit Pyongyang first in order to encourage Kim Il Sung to re-visit Europe and the USSR.
