Sung En-Fan, First Counselor of the PRC’s Embassy in Vienna, told comrade I. Popescu, First Secretary, that the Canadian Embassy in Beijing has recently contacted the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the need to continue the IAEA inspections in Taiwan, trying to justify these inspections and obtain the Chinese government’s tacit approval.
The Canadian counterpart was told clearly that the PRC does not accept any future contact between the IAEA and Taiwan, rejecting the continuation of the Agency’s inspection on this territory. The Chinese statement has put the Canadian government in a difficult situation.
