No. D. 185-NGP/66   January 20, 1966.

My dear Ambassador/High Commissioner/C.D.A. etc.

We hope you will be interested in the attached note on ‘China’s defence production’. It brings together in a compact form the latest available published material on the subject. While every attempt has been made to make the estimates as objective and as accurate as possible, it has not been possible to leave out the speculative element completely because of the total absence of official statistics.

Yours sincerely,

(A.K. Damodaran)

Deputy Secretary (East Asia Division)
