Beirut, May 5, 1949

Number 25/ The initial agreement between Russia and the Allies about the future of Berlin caused an extremely good response in communist forums in Beirut.  They believe that this will reduce the Anglo-American pressure, if temporarily, on communism in Arab countries and that it will help Communists effectively to seize the opportunity to accomplish their goals and strengthen their centers anew.

Therefore, we are noticing that the communists are awaiting this initiative to reduce the Security Council’s pressure on them.

Communists in Beirut respond positively to news that an agreement has been reached to end the Berlin Blockade.
