Beirut, 9/8/1949 - No. 85

There is a strong rumor in town, mainly in popular Christian circles, that there is an agreement to place Syria and Lebanon under French control for 75 years and that this will be implemented with the smallest possible delays. Although most ordinary Christians support this decision, ordinary Muslims are strongly opposed to it.

Report on a rumor that Syria and Lebanon will return to being governed by France.
