- a determination of the geographic zones of the reduction
| the depth of the zone of the reductions is determined by how much [territory] the main opposing groups cover
| the mutual reductions of the armed forces should be accomplished in a comparatively narrow zone and at an equal distance from each side of the border (within approximately 200 km)
| "[in] principle mutual reductions will be accomplished in comparable geographic zones, the parameters of which the Parties will agree in the future. The parties are to pursue an additional agreement on regions where there are specials conditions."

The [period] of the reductions of military equipment
| Include a clause about "withdrawal" in article 3

| "The reduction of armaments and military equipment is done by the destruction, dismantling, or conversion for civilian use or by other means*. The specific order and procedures for the reduction of armaments and military equipment is subject to subsequent agreement".

This chart graphically compares the PRC's and Soviet positions on the reduction of armed forces through the determination of specific geographical zones, as well as the reduction of the amount of military equipment and facilities in the border regions.
