Extract from minutes no. 222 from a session of the Secretariat of the CPSU Central Committee from February 18, 1986

 

On an answer to the message from the leadership of the Organization of Mujahidin of the Iranian People.

 

RESOLVED:

 

1. To approve the text of a response to a letter from the M. Rajavi, leader of the Organization of Mujahadin of the Iranian People (OMIP), addressed to M.S. Gorbachev, and to the requests expressed by the leadership of OMIP (attached).

 

2. To direct the USSR Committee of State Security to deliver the indicated response to the leadership of OMIP orally.

Message to be Communicated to M. Rajavi

A message to be communicated orally by the recipient, ‘Sofia,’ in response to M. Rajavi’s request for the USSR to announce their solidarity with the Organization of Mujahadin of the Iranian People (OMIP). The message declares that the USSR is undoubtedly supportive of the ‘progressive forces’ in Iran, but that declaration of support will take shape in the manner that best suits the moment.
