On the 27th, from 3:20 until 4:40 in the afternoon, in President Clinton’s suite at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Prime Minister Hosokawa and President Clinton held a Japan-United States summit meeting. A summary of its main points is as follows in the separate telegrams. (Attending on the other side were Secretary of State Christopher, Ambassador to the United Nations Albright, Ambassador Mondale, National Security Advisor Lake, Deputy National Security Advisor Berger, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Lord, and an interpreter. Attending on our side were the Foreign Minister, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hatoyama, Ambassador Kuriyama, North American Affairs Bureau Director-General Sato, Executive Secretary to the Prime Minister Makita, and an interpreter (First North America Division’s Suzuki).
