Re: Your Telegram No. 469
When I requested on the 12th appointments with key persons on the Syrian side for Ambassador Nakayama when he came for his visit to Syria, Foreign Minister Shara answered right away by saying that President Assad had just gone to his office and that each would be happy to meet Ambassador Nakayama (that day). On the afternoon of the 14th, after Ambassador Nakayama had arrived in Syria, Foreign Minister Shara informed us: “I have been waiting for your visit and would like to see you in three hours.” After that, however, the meeting was postponed until 10:30 on the morning of the 15th on account of Foreign Minister Shara’s schedule. In this telegram to the Foreign Minister of Japan, Ambassador to Syria Kato updates the Foreign Minister on Special Envoy Nakyama’s meeting times with Syrian officials.
