Today, the plenum of the CC of the CPB has approved Todor Zhivkov's resignation from the position of Secretary General of the CC CPB and President of the State Council [Prime-Minister] of the Popular Republic of Bulgaria.
Petar Mladenov was elected to the position of Secretary General of the CC CPB.
This change [in the leadership] is seen as a victory for the "Gorbachev's supporters [gorbachiovistilor]."
