Hungarian Embassy in the DPRK, Ciphered Telegram, 14 October 1982. Subject: Pakistani-DPRK relations.

This document was made possible with support from ROK Ministry of Unification

In response to my inquiry, the [Pakistani] ambassador told me the following:

The relations between Pakistan and the DPRK are determined by the fact that both developing countries belong to the Non-Aligned [Movement].

In 1980, they signed a commercial agreement, and last year each country should have exported goods worth 25 million DM to the other, but they fulfilled their obligations only to 51 percent.

He mentioned the export of cotton, textile products, crude oil, and petrochemical products to the DPRK as possible fields of cooperation. He also considered it possible to establish cooperation in the field of agriculture.

He expects the visit of Zia ul-Haq to make an appropriate contribution to the development of relations, and to show the whole world the peace-loving character and mutual friendship of the two countries.

102 – E.

A commercial agreement signed between Pakistan and North Korea is discussed in this ciphered telegram.
