Beirut, May 13, 1949
Number 73/ Mr. Spotich, the new secretary for the Czechoslovakian Legation arrived from his country with his wife and took residence at the Laila Hotel in Mina’ Hisn neighborhood.
I noted from my discussion yesterday with Mr. Bisranco that he is interested in following this Czech official’s movements as he is known to be loyal to the current government in communist Czechoslovakia. He has taken residence in Hotel Laila that is known by the Russians to be a British haven.
Bisranco, as a member of the Russian Legation, is saying that they mistrust this Czech official and that they are watching him closely.
I noticed that this Czech official and his wife have not contacted, since they took residence in this motel, any foreign nationals.
