Beirut, Jun 17, 1949

Number 81/ Ghaleb Anishan, Counsel of the Turkish Legation in Syria, arrived from Damascus. He contacted yesterday the Turkish chargé d'affaires in Beirut.

I have learned that the Turks are greatly interested in the event of electing a president in the Syrian Republic and the internal situation in Syria.  It was mentioned that the Turkish officials in Beirut and Damascus are studying these matters thoroughly and reporting back to the government in Ankara.

I also found out that reporters are still pouring in to Beirut for this purpose and are splitting between Beirut and Syria.

The Turkish government is very interested in events in Syria.
