JOURNAL

of Cde. V. I. IVANOV, Soviet Ambassador in the DPRK for the period from 20 December 1955 through 19 January 1956

19 January

I visited Nam Il together with Deputy Trade Representative Andreyev concerning the issue raised by the Korean friends of the delivery of 30 20-ton dump trucks to them this year for the [Mu Song] concentration mill.

Andreyev reported that the Soviet side can supply 13 in the first quarter, 11 10-ton dump trucks in the second quarter, five in the third quarter, and five 20-ton dump trucks in the fourth quarter. When he was doing this Andreyev noted that according to his information this quantity of vehicle transport will support the removal of iron ore for the operation of the concentration mill.

Nam Il said that we agree with the proposals inasmuch as there is no opportunity to obtain the 20-ton dump trucks completely. He reported that, having calculated their capabilities with Pak Chang-ok and the Ministry of the Metallurgical Industry that 2,700,000 tons of removed soil, ore, and concentrate are to be transported this year for the normal operation of the mill, we think that this transport will be insufficient.

Consequently the Korean friends are asking for the supply of at least an additional 10 10-ton dump trucks, and also spare parts for these heavy-duty vehicles.

Andreyev promised to look into this possibility.
