NOTICE ON “OS” [Environmental Conditions]

           

As of 17:00 on July 2nd of this year, the radiation conditions at the Chernobyl atomic energy station and the city of Pripyat were characterized by the following data:

Level of radiation:

at a height of 200 m. above the reactor

47 roentgen per hour

 

closer to the reactor from above

400 roentgen per hour

 

at a distance of 100-150 m.

30 roentgen per hour

 

at the perimeter between

 0.02-250 roentgen per hour

 

in the city of Pripyat

100 milliroentgen per hour

 

in the city of Chernobyl

 3.5 milliroentgen per hour

 

           

Aviation in the course of one day consisted of 147 flights, including 113 for decontamination of the area. 897 tons of special chemicals were deposited, including 43 tons of latex. 33.2 hectares were worked on.

           

172 units of equipment were restored to working status / 6,234 units overall /.

           

1,725 units of equipment were worked on by decontamination posts, and 7,180 persons are working in the zone. Overall 57,365 units of equipment, and 196,528 persons.

           

37,332 members of the military are taking part in the elimination of the emergency, including 29,485 reserves who have been called up.

This note explains the levels of radiation around the reactor, decontamination techniques, the number of troops involved in the cleanup process.
