Letter, From I.Vinogradov to Soviet Central Committee Secretary M. A. Suslov, Regarding Afanasii Gavrilovich Krymov, a Prisoner of a Soviet Corrective-Labor Camp

TO CC CPSU SECRETARY CDE. M.A. SUSLOV

The CC of the CPSU has received a letter from Afanasii Gavrilovich Krymov, currently serving a sentence in a MVD [Ministry of Internal Affairs] USSR corrective-labor camp, with a request to look over his case and permit him to move to China.

A.G. Krymov (also Evgenii Kuo, Guo Zhaotang), by nationality Chinese, born in 1905, was in the Soviet Union from 1925; a Soviet citizen, he became a student at the Institute of Red Professors, then he worked at IKKI [the Comintern] in the Institute of National-Colonial Problems.  In 1938 he was arrested by the organs of MVD USSR and accused and sentenced for fifteen years for counter-revolutionary crimes.  In 1953, after serving this sentence, he was re-settled in the city of Noril’sk without the right of departure.

Before his arrest he became a member of the CPSU from 1928, a member of VLKSM [Komsomol] from 1927, and a member of the communist party of China from 1926.

In 1945 A.G. Krymov petitioned the CC CPSU about his request.  According to his petition he was denied by an opinion from the USSR Procurator, which told him then that there was no basis for an investigation into his situation.  

We would consider it possible again to direct a request to the CC CPSU concerning the letter of Krymov to the Procurator of the USSR regarding his request to more carefully look over his case and communicate to us its opinion.
