Letter to the CPSU Central Committee, Request from Radmanesh for Mortaza Yazdi

[CPSU CC stamp:

28 September 1955

Subject to return to the

CPSU CC General Department]

TO THE CPSU CENTRAL COMMITTEE

The leadership of the People's Party of Iran [NPI] has turned to the CPSU CC with a request to give any possible aid in the rescue of NPI CC Executive Committee member Doctor Mortaza Yazdi, who has been sentenced to death by the military court of Tehran. The same fate threatens NPI CC member Cde. Sharmini and 14 leaders of the youth organization, whose trial will soon begin.

In addition, the NPI CC request permission, based on last year's example, for Cdes. Iraj Iskanderi and Ehsan Tabari to go to Prague to organize a protest campaign through the press against the executions which are being prepared.

In October 1954, when trials of officers who were members of the NPI military organization were held in Iran NPI CC member Cde. Tabari went to Vienna with a similar purpose. However, experience has shown that this trip did not actually produce significant results.

Taking this into consideration, we consider the trip of Cdes. Iskanderi and Tabari to be inadvisable.

We think it possible to advise the Iranian comrades to appeal to the fraternal Parties of France, Italy, and the countries of people's democracy in the name of the NPI CC and also to international labor, women's, lawyers', and students' organizations  in the name of Iranian political émigrés with appropriate appeals to organize a protest campaign against the bloody repressions being committed by the Iranian authorities against progressive figures of Iran.

The necessary assistance will be given in sending the letters to fraternal Communist Parties and international organizations. The Department will arrange with the editorial board of the newspaper "For a Durable Peace, for People's Democracy" for the publication of an article about the persecutions of progressive figures in Iran.

Also asks to send Iraj Iskanderi and Ehsan Tabari to Prague to organize protests against executions. The CPSU CC denied the request to go to Prague, but agreed to appeal to various fraternal Communist parties and organize a protest campaign.
